THE ADMIRAL OF THE OCEAN SEA: USS HONORS MARITIME ACHIEVEMENTS IN SERVICE TO SEAFARERS

United Seamen's Service hosts the most prestigious event in the maritime industry, the Admiral of the Ocean Sea awards. This year, the 37th Admiral Of The Ocean Sea Awards were presented to Paul F. Richardson,  President of Paul F. Richardson Associates, Inc., and Colin Veitch, President and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line.

Over 600 industry leaders and representatives from every union attended the award ceremony and dinner-dance, a fundraising event for USS, at the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers on November 3, 2006. Master of ceremonies. Captain Robert Hart, USN (Ret.), hosted the event which commenced with a rousing "Presentation and Posting of the Colors" by the United States Coast Guard Ceremonial Honor Guard.

In conjunction with the AOTOS awards, USS's Honored Seafarer program recognizes seafarers who have risked their lives in the line of duty. The Honorable Helen Delich Bentley presented honorees with Mariner's plaques and rosettes. Each year the AOTOS Mariners' Plaques are presented to officers and crews of US flag ships for outstanding seamanship in rescue operations at sea. The Mariner's Rosettes commend individual seafarers for acts of outstanding courage and devotion to duty.
